Vacation Time

Once a year my precious daughter and son-in-law take my mother to their home. This is my vacation time and it also gives my mother a little vacation also. She loves going over to their home. My daughter and son-in-law are so good with her and take such good care of her. This will be our second year to do this. I so need it and I am sure my mother does too.
I am just exhausted and my nerves seem to tell me it's time for a break.
I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Day Of Rest

As a caregiver we do not get Sunday off, we still have to take care of our love one. I know God understands this. I do try and let other things go on this day like washing, cleaning the house ect.
Genesis 2:2 Tells us that on the seventh day God rested. I try to rest, pray and read God's Word. I am not able to go to church so I watch it on T.V this helps a lot.
Because this is the seventh day if you have never asked Jesus into your heart I want to give you the opportunity to do so.
Just pray this simple prayer and it will change your life and keep you out of hell.
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. You said, in Your Word,..".if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, And shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED" (Rom.10:9). I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification. Your Word says,"...with the HEART man believeth unto righteousness: And with the MOUTH confession is made unto salvation"(Rom.10:10). I do believe with my heart, and I now confess with my mouth Jesus as MY Lord and Savior. Therefore, I am now saved! Thank You, Lord for my salvation.
If you prayed this prayed sincerely from your heart, then according to Gd's Word you Are Saved! I want to welcome you to the family of God. Now tell someone because God says, if we are ashamed of Him. He will not confess us before His Father in Heaven.
Blog me and let me know if you prayed this prayer. You will never be the same.

Did You Know?

Did you know that sixty-one percent of caregivers are women?
Did you know that thirteen percent are sixty-five or older?
Did you know that about fifty-nine percent also hold down another job?
Did you know that sixty-five million people twenty-nine percent of the U.S. population, provide care for a love one?
Did you know as I stated before on my blog. that about three hundred seventy-five billion dollars a year is provided FREE by caregivers?
Did you know that sixty-four percent live in the same home as their love one.?
Did you know that when Jesus was on the Cross he told one of his disciples to take car of his mother? This disciple took her into his own home to take care of her. John 19:26-27

Special People

It takes a special person to be a caregiver. They have to have love and special skills and traits. There are some things you have to do you must be a planner and organizer. You also must have lots of Patience. You have to have a lot of tolerance. You really have to be a strong person. Another thing about a caregiver you have to have a lot of love in your heart.God tells us we are to love one another in John 15:17. So just remember if you are a caregiver you are a special person.

Positive Side of Caregiving

Being a caregiver has a positive side we need to talk about. Just taking care of your love one is of course a good thing. Showing love and helping them. You can feel like you are doing what you are suppose to be doing at this time in your life. Helping others is what we are suppose to be doing. It can bring a closer relationship with our love one.
Remember if it is a parent most of them were there for you now it's your turn to be there for them. Call it PAY BACK TIME. Do you know what pay back time means. It means it's time to pay back a parent or some love one for being there for you. And even if they were not God would want us to.

Strain On Family

Being a caregiver can also put a strain on your family. Sometimes my daughter wants a mother and daughter day. She just wants us to go shopping eat out ect. A day just for mother and daughter. My son-in-law has to sat with my mother while we have a little time to do this.
You have to give up personal time, friends and family get-together. I have to choose between what needs to be done and what I want to do. I have very few personal activities. I love to write so I try and spend a little time doing that.
My daughter is a gospel singer and she had her come back concert last month. I was not able to go this was hard on her and on me.
You have to give up a lot there is an up side I will get to that later.

Affects of Caregiving

Being a caregiver can affect you in so many ways. It affects you physically, emotionally and financially.
It causes stress, angry, frustrated, depression. It also affects you physically you get so tired, high blood pressure sometimes. Not able to get enough rest for your body. Do not eat right gain weight or loose weight. We just do not have time to take care of our body as we should. We seem to always put our love one first. It affects us financially it cost a lot of money to take care of a love one. The supplies are so many and medical supplies and medication cost a lot of money. I know all about this I am the one that picks up the supplies. I have to go to so many different places that it cost a lot for gas also.
I know if God did not help me and my mother we would not be able to make it.
"But my God shall supply ALL your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Change

I am a person who does not like change. When I first started taking care of my mother in two thousand and three I did not think I could do it. This was a big change for her, for me and for my family.
I went six years with on break from caregiving. I am just now getting breaks. My precious daughter and son-in-law took my mother to their home for one month last year. This gave me a much needed break. They are planning on doing that for me again this year. This will be my second break. I know how bad I need it.
Hang in there you can do it with God's help.

Energizer Bunny

My mother has a little Energizer Bunny that my cousin bought her because she calls my mother the Little Energizer Bunny. She said, that my mother just keeps going and going. My mother loves this little bunny and keeps in in the bed with her moves it around holds it. I guess she is like the Little Energizer Bunny because God gives her energy to just keep going and going. He also give me energy to just keep going and going.

A Heart Not A Desire

I have a heart to be a caregiver for my mother not a desire. You can have a heart out of love to do it, but not a desire. I never wanted to be a caregiver. I never even wanted to be a nurse. But here I am doing something I never had a desire to do.
There are some people who do not have the heart or desire to do it. I have people say to me I just could not do what you are doing. You have to have the love (heart) to be able to do it.
Jesus did not want to hang on a cross for us. He had the love (heart) to do it. That is why He did it. I love my mother enough to take care of her. Every caregive rloves enough to do it for that love one.

Hang In There !!!!!!!!

So many people tell me I could not do what you do. Only with God's help you can. I know all these years going on eight now. It had to be God giving me strength and helping me to hang in there. It is a hard job. I think one of the hardest jobs there is. Being a caregiver is hard.
If anyone had told me that at sixty-seven I would be taken care of my ninety-two year old bed-ridden I would have been in shock. I guess I am shocked even today. But you have to do, what you have to do I always say.
"I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me. "Philippians 4:13.

One Day At A Time

God really tells us to take one day at a time. In Matthew 6:34 Jesus said, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: For the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Sometimes this is even hard to do. I know with God's help I can make it no matter how hard it is.
Some days I have more to do I have to play catch up. It will be time to get supplies so it's a day I run from place to place getting supplies. Some days my mother does not feel that good or I don't. And there are some days I just want to run away.
Now I know why God said, to take one day at a time.

I hope this blog will give you help and bless you in some way. Let me know if this blog has been any help to you.
We as caregivers need to stand together care and pray for each other. We need to know that someone cares for us also.

Lonely

As a caregiver you get lonely, I know I do. On the week-ends and at night when no one is here but me and my mother I get lonely. My mother is usually asleep and I am alone. It is at this time I have to remember that God said, "I will never leave you or forsake you" Hebrews 13:5. I start praying (talking) to Jesus and reading His Word. I fellowship with him.
We all get lonely at times but a caregiver is confined at home and cannot just get up and leave go some place . We are like shut-ins.
When you are alone and lonely go to God He is with you always.

What About Me ?

Do you ever take time to think about yourself ?
I know most of the time caring for my mother I don't. I don't even take the time to think about how my body feels and what it is going through. I really have to make myself stop long enough to take a look at myself, my body and say hey, I need more rest or I need a little time for myself. A few minutes to say what about me?
So try and take a break and check up on you. Do a minute to say what about me lets check me out and see how me feels, what me needs or even what does me want?
With out a me moment the love one will not receive the help they need.
Take a little time for me !

What Does My Mother Want?

Seeing my mother in the shape she is in I guess it is hard to understand how she wants to live like that. I do not believe that I would myself if it was me. But, she does and is happy most of the time. Even though she is not able to do the things she use to do she seems to still be pretty happy. So we must always remember it is what our love one wants.
When she went to the hospital they called me into the room and talked to me about a feeding tube. They asked me what I wanted to do. I said what do you mean? I finely understood that they wanted to make sure I wanted them to do a feeding tube on her. I was shocked I said, I will do what my mother wants and I know what she wants and that is to live so do the feeding tube. I believe it always goes back to what your love one wants.
God says in psalm 91:16 With long life will I satisfy him, (or I am sure her) and shew him (her) my salvation.
My mother is not satisfied to go to heaven yet and until she is satisfied to go than she won't go.

Sadness

Sometimes I look at my mother in that little old crippled up body and it makes me so sad. She once was a very strong woman. She was only five feet four inches tall but a stout, strong woman. Sadness sets in as I remember the woman she use to be and look at her now.
Sadness sets in when I remember how I use to use to put Desitin on my daughter when she was a baby and now I put it on my mother. Sadness sets in when I think about I have changed more diapers on my mother in this almost eight years than she ever changed on me or I ever did my daughter.
There are times when sadness sets in.
I know that this old body just wears out and we have to just understand that God's thoughts are not our thoughts, God's ways are not our ways. I also know that God never meant for out bodies to wear out but because of sin in the Garden Of Eden is what caused it.

Mouth Swabs

Just a little warning to caregivers. If you use the foam mouth swabs like I do with my mother be very careful. I have had them come off in her mouth. They came off the little stick and was in her jaw. I had to stick my finger into her mouth and pull it out. Now I am sure I never leave her alone while it is in her mouth. This is the only way she can have any water so I have to use them. You just have to be so careful with a love one.
I know that God tells us in Isaiah 41:10 to fear not for he says he is with us. I do not fear but we do have to watch and use good judgment.

Week-ends and Vacations

When I have my mother to take care of all by myself it is hard. I have her on week-ends and on the times my daughter takes off days for vacations.

That's the time I really have to pray and depend on the Lord to help me. I say Lord you said,"As our days so shall our strength be I ask you for strength today in Jesus name."

There is also times I get tired after almost eight years and being sixty-seven myself I get tired and just want a break. But we are not to be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. Galatians 6:9. Also in Luke 18:1 It says that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.

So always remember God will help us make it even when we think we can't go on.

Doing It All

There is so much you have to do to take care of a love one. When they are bedridden like my mother is. She is and not really able to sat up in a wheel chair. She can't even push the covers up or off herself so I have to make sure she is not hot or cold. Everything has to be done by me on my daughter who comes in to help me.
I hate seeing my precious little mother in this shape. She was always so strong.
There are days I don't think I can go on but than I pray and God helps me go on.
Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me " I know I use this a lot but it reminds me that if I try to do it with out God's help I know I could never do it.

Swallowing Problems

I can tell my mother has a swallowing problem. Her food does not go down and she tries to swallow and gets upset because it is so hard for her. A lot of the baby food comes out. That is why she is on a feeding tube now. She had some what the doctor called mini strokes before she fell and broke her hip. Strokes can cause this.
I have a suction machine that I use when she has any choking.
Some of the symptoms of a swallowing problem:

Food comes out of mouth.
Hurts when they swallow.
Maybe they try and swallow more than once to get it down.
Tears in eyes when eating.
Hard to swallow pills.
Cough when drinking water.
These are just some of the symptoms watch your love one closely for symptoms.

Feeding Tube

T second time I brought my mother home from the hospital she was on a feeding tube and I sure did not think I could do that. I kept telling my daughter I cannot do this, I cannot do this. Seeing her like that was bad enough but than having to feed her through a tube in her stomach to keep her alive was even worse.
My daughter would quote scripture verse to me that said, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13 It was so hard to do but I just kept praying and quoting that scripture verse. I finely got to the place where I was able to do what I had to do to take care of my mom.

New Caregivers

To all of you new caregivers who have just begin to take care of a love one. I want to talk to you today. I remember when I first started to take care of my mother. When I first brought her home from the hospital I just did not know if I was going to be able to do it or not. I seemed there was so much to do and so much to remember.
I thank God we had a nurse who came out to help me and teach me so many things. I remember I got a note book and wrote down everything as they told me what to do. I still use a notebook to this day. I write down everything I have to do daily. I write down her blood pressure daily . I also write down the medication I give her, her feeding times ect. Just everything I need to remember.
I know how hard it is when you first start out and you have to learn everything.
Hang in there you can do it.
It says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
God will help you to be able to do it.

Tell me about Blood Pressure. Do I ever know about it. My mother has high Blood Pressure this has been a battle for her for years. She of course is on medication but there are still times we battle it.
I am also on blood pressure medication and my friend just found out at sixty-three she has it and is trying to work with the doctors to get the right medication to control hers.
This can be a pain I battled it last year.
I have a blood pressure machine and take mine and my mothers daily sometimes several times a day if needed.

Cleaning Stomach Area

O.k. so I was able to do my mother's feeding tube. I got where I could do that now we have something else that was hard to do.
I had to clean her stomach area where the feeding tube goes in. This was something else that was hard for me.
So here I go again quoting the scripture verse "I can do all things through Christ which strength me."
My daughter was able to do it better than I was. I still hate to do it,but I do with God's help.
Even if there are things we don't enjoy doing God will help us still be able to do it.
I know there are a lot of things in this life that we don't like to do but we can always depend on God to help us.

Our Good

Sometimes I have to stop and remember that in Romans 8:28God said, that ALL things work together for good. When I look at my mother and I see everything that is going on around me. I get depressed confused and ask the question WHY?. I guess at times we all do this, but I just have to stop and think on God's Word. One day I told the Lord I love you, but sometimes I don't understand you. He said, "I did not ask you to understand me just to trust me."

Let me hear from all you caregivers out there. Lets keep each other lifted up and informed. Caregivers are special people. We are hard workers and sharing God's love with others. We are doing what we are suppose to do. Keep on doing God's good work. In Matthew 25:40 Jesus said, "In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Always remember this we are doing it unto Jesus.

Love

I love my little mother so much she is so dear to me. I know all you caregivers feel the same way about your love one
I do this because I love her. It is love that drives us caregivers. Love will find a way.
Yes, there are times when I don't think I can go on but it is God's love that gives me the strength to go on. I know that I could not do this by myself. I have to ask God for strength to make it each day. Love is powerful and that is what held Jesus to the cross I heard one preacher say. I am sure it was the love He had for us.

Count Your Blessings

Its time to count your blessings. We must take some time to do this. Just sat down and say God I am so thankful for: Tell Him all the many things you are thankful for in your life. Can you relate?
I am thankful for my daughter who comes to help me five mornings a week. I am thankful for all the other people who make it easier for me. I am thankful for all my love ones. I am thankful for the time I am spending with my mother and the time I have with my daughter. We try to always have lunch together before she leaves each day.
I am thankful I am able to take care of my mother. There are so many things we can be thankful for.

Caregivers Month

I guess I should wait until November to bring this up. Did you know that November is National Family Caregivers month. Where have I been? I just found this out so to me it is news. Anyway the month of November is to thank, support, educate and to celebrate caregivers. I know I will bring this up again in November if I think about it. I guess I am just slow I have been so home bound taking care of my mother all these years that I am just now finding out about all the caregivers out there. In these first years I felt so alone I guess I thought there was not this many out there. I found out there are more than fifty million of us. I also read that we give about $200 billion in free caregiving services.
HATS OFF TO US ! and all this is done because of LOVE. Just how great is that.
I John 4:7 "Beloved let us love one another."

Love

I love my little mother so much she is so dear to me. I know all you caregivers feel the same way about your love one. I do this because I love her. It is love that drives us caregivers. Love will find a way.
Sometimes I don't think I can go on but it is God's love that gives me the strength to go on.
John 15:17 "These things I command you, that ye love one another."

Supplies

I order some of the supplies I use from the company I find on the supply. On the supply I see a phone number and I have in my hand the box or tube it came in so I have all the information I need to order it. I do this sometimes instead of going through my local medical supply. They send it right to my home without charging me shipping and handling. I also order from my local pharmacy and I get it the next day. So sometimes this is better.

Time

It seems I am so busy all time. When you are a caregiver you really have to redeem your time. Time is very important to me. I know as a caregiver it is to you also. I try and make good use of any free time I have. I write my blog I try and write some on my book. I do my exercise and my free morning time I pray and read the bible. The rest of the morning I usually go get supplies.
Always remember to take time to pray and read God's Word each day.
It says in Ephesians 5:16 "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil." We know they are.

Take Care Of You

Caregivers try and take care of you so you can take care of others. I have a treadmill and I try to get on it every day except Sunday. On Sunday I try and get a little rest. I also try and watch what I eat. I buy a lot of low cal. foods.
God tells us to take care of our bodies because it is the temple of the Holy Ghost. I Corinthians 6:19 It is our body but His Temple. So it is our duty to take car of it and I know I don't always do that. I am taking care of my mother and not taking care of myself as I should all time. I am doing better thank God.

Christian

I am sure by reading my blog you already know that I am a Christian. I love the Lord. I know it is because of the strength he gives to me that I am able to take care of my mother at sixty-seven years old.
I don't get to go to church as much anymore because I have to be here taking care of her, but I stay close to the Lord by reading the bible, praying (talking to him), watching christian television. Stay close to God and know he said in Hebrews 13:5 "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee."

We Need Love Also

As a caregiver we are showing the love of God to others, but there are times we need to feel loved also. I know sometimes I feel so tired and so alone. When I am taking care of my mother on week-ends by myself I just need to feel someone loves me also. When this happens I know it is time for me to go to God in prayer have a little talk with Jesus and feel his love. Read His Word and listen to what God has to say to me.

Thank You

Take time to thank others. As I said, yesterday there are many wonderful people who help me in so many ways to take care of my mother.
If there are people like this helping you take time to just say thank you. You can send them a little note, flowers, a basket. Do something to just say thank you for making it a little easier for me. This is important and take time to thank God for placing them in your live to help.
TAKE TIME TO JUST SAY THANK YOU.

People Helping Caregivers

As I have been taking care of my mother for over seven years now I have met some wonderful caring people. It seems like God gives me the very best to help me. My wonderful daughter comes and helps me each morning five days a week. I thank God for her help. We have a wonderful christian doctor who is always there for us. Nurses who come out from time to time when needed and help us. People at the pharmacy that order what I need and always have it there the next day. There are people at a Medical supply center where I get some of my supplies. I order some supplies on the phone from companies and these people are always so nice and helpful. Precious people where we get her food. Once when I ran out of food and there was ice and snow on the ground the girl delivered right to my door.
God has truly blessed me with great people who make it a lot easier for me and my daughter to take care of my mother.

Portable X-Ray Machine

As I talked yesterday about how my mother had an x-ray on her stomach because of the feeding tube.
The primary care doctor called a x-ray company. They brought out a portable machine to our house rolled it into her room took the x-ray while she was in the bed. It was very simple and fast.
I thank God for all the wonderful people who are there to help us caregivers do a better job taking care of our love one.

Good Advice

Caregivers take good advice make sure you know where you have all medical papers. I have a file cabinet where I file everything on my mother. But even with this I forgot to keep a file on an x-ray she had done last year on her abdomen. So I called the home health care that comes out when we need them and they had it on their file. They gave me the name and number. She has to have this done every year because of the feeding tube in her stomach. I should have had a file on it. I do now and I learned a lesson to make sure and keep up with every medical paper.

I read it is over sixty-five million caregivers in the U.S. and that one third are men. That is really great. There are a lot of us caregivers out there more than I realized. We all do this because of love. Women and men I just happened to be a daughter taking care of her mother. Sons can do this too.

She has never taken a Flue Shot. Never had a Mammogram in her life. She only had one broken bone in her life and that was her hip.She has never had a Blood Clot been bedfast or going on eight years now.

She is going to give me a little break in the fall and take my mother so that I can have a little vacation too. I went six years with no break. I look back and think how did I do that. Special Person

No matter who you are caring for if it is your mother, dad, child, husband, wife, grandchild, friend ect. You are a very special person. You have a special kind of love and a lot of strength. It takes a loving strong person to be a caregiver.
I think everyone should be able to take care of a loved one if they need to but not everyone can. So for us that do we need to realize God has placed in us a special love and strength to be able to do what we do.

Share In The Celebration

With tomorrow being the 4th of July it's kinda hard to celebrate like any other person. Caregivers give up alot to care for the ones they love so, you have to do the best you can to celebrate with the one you are caring for. Let's say for example the 4th of July would be a great time to decorate their room with red, white and blue and there is always a great fireworks show on television and you can also play patiotic music. When you do this for your loved one then you will forget all about the fun you are missing and create some fun of your own and make memories as well.

Happy 4th!

Taking Care of a Caregiver

Taking care of my mother is a full time job as it is with all caregivers. I only get to leave the house when my daughter comes over in the mornings Than most of the time I am running for supplies we need. As I have her all week-end alone I do not get to leave on the week-ends.
I know I do not take care of myself as I should but I am trying to do better now than the first few years. I have a treadmill and I use it a lot. I try and watch what I eat. I try and spend time with God praying and reading His Word. I do not get to go to church that much but we keep the t.v. on Christian channels all time.
Taking care of the caregiver is hard. I know I let myself go when I should not but, sometimes you are just to tired to care.
I did take one day last week and just go do a little shopping for me. I did pretty good found a few sales.
I try also to take time to write that really is hard to do.
I need to have some check up and tests done so, I am working on doing that when I can.
Caregivers need to take care of caregivers too.
Remember one day at a time.

Eating

My mother has not been able to take even baby food in her mouth for over a year. You know that she is on a feeding tube. She gets water on a little foam mouth swabs. It hurt me so much because she was not able to have any food in her mouth to taste. One day I prayed and I said,"God either let her come on to heaven or heal her so she can be able to eat. About a week ago she told me I a starving to death she was not starving to death because of her feeding tube but she wanted some food in her mouth that she could taste. So I said,O.K. I got some baby food and a baby spoon bits of chocolate pudding. My daughter came by and as I was feeding my mother I was watching her and she started swallowing the pudding. I looked at my daughter and I said she is swallowing that pudding and my daughter said, "I was watching her too and I see she is." So thanks be to God she is taking a little baby food in her mouth. Praise the Lord! God is good.

Let's Talk About Grace.

Now let's talk about God's Grace. We talked about His strength now we also need His Grace. So many times I have come to God telling Him, I just can not go on I need you to help me. I would tell Him how old I am (as if He did not know). I would tell Him how long I have been doing this and He knows that too. I also tell Him how much it hurts me to see my mother in the shape she is in. He just say, "My Grace is sufficient for thee:for my strength is made perfect in weakness. II Corinthians 12:9. God's Grace is like His strength He only gives it for one day at a time not one week or one year. Only one day at a time. So each day He gives me Grace to go on. God is so good. I love my Lord. See He also gives my mother Grace to go on each day.
What is Grace the American College Dictionary says "the influence or spirit of God operating in man to regenerate or strengthen" moral strength, the Grace to perform a duty. So we need His strength and His grace to take care of our love ones each day. Remember one day at a time.

Talking About Strength

Let's talk about strength today If you are like me sometimes I just don't think I can go on another day. I need all the strength I can get. The only way to get strength to make it is from God. In Deuteronomy 33:25 God tells us As our days so shall out strength be. God does not give us strength for a week, a month, a year but one day at a time. I don't know about you but I need all the strength I can get. That's the way I have been taking care of my mother for over seven years now one day at a time. When I get up each morning I pray God give me strength to take care of my mother today and He always does.
Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Remember take only one day at a time.

To Get The Bed Or Not To Get The Bed?

Well, we just thought we were getting a new bed. There was a little confusion as to who was responsible for taking the old bed down. I would have needed help getting the old bed down. Needless to say we do not have a new bed. When you need to replace a hospital bed or get a new one, make sure and ask them who is going to take down your old bed. At this point we are not sure if we are going to get a new bed for awhile.

Getting A New Bed

Well, my Mother finally wore her bed out. It has been 7 years and the motor is going out. It's not an easy task to exchange beds because I am so used to this one and it is also not easy to move her. We will have to place her on the small daybed that is next to her in her room until they get the old bed taken down and the new bed put up. Then we will need to transfer her to her new bed. I will let you know if I like this new bed and what kind it is.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

I John 4:7-12
Beloved if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

With my mother being on a feeding tube she cannot have food by mouth. I make sure no one eats in her room. Food is not talked about around her. I keep the TV on mostly Christian stations that do not have commercials that show food. If I am cooking in the kitchen, I make sure the vents are on to help keep the smell out of her room.
We also involve her in our lives in every way we can. I talk to her and tell her things that are going on. She is not just left in her room all alone all time. Her door is always open, I go in and out and talk to her all day. My daughter comes over every morning to help take care of her and she does her hair and nails. We share all holidays with her. I buy gifts for her to give to others, but I always talk to her about it first and we talk about what she wants to get them. We make a point to keep her involved in our lives as much as possible.
Why do I do all this because, I love her and I want her to be happy as much as she can be?
We must remember how we would feel and how we would want to be treated.
My daughter and Son-in-law tell her over the phone (speaker phone) that they love her and good night, every night.

Another day on medication. My mother takes Lopressor twice a day for her blood pressure. The generic name is Metoprolol. She has been on this for years. She takes 50-mg. twice a day with food. This medication should not be abruptly stopped always follow your doctors instructions. You may also find that additional blood pressure medications are needed such as a diuretic. With a diuretic it is important to eat bananas and tomatoes as it replaces potassium that this medication could deplete.

God’s Word is still your best medication.

About Aspirin

Proverb’s 4:20-22 God’s Word is out best medicine.

We must be careful with aspirin as with any medication so, contact your doctor before taking it. Some people can be allergic to it as I said yesterday. My daughter cannot take it. If you have a stomach ulcer you should not take it because it can cause stomach bleeding. Also you should check with your doctor if you have asthma, history of hives, nasal polyps or if you are on a blood thinner. Some doctors take you off aspirin before any surgery due to the risk of heavy bleeding.

Another Day On Medication

Proverbs 4:20-22 God’s Word is my medicine.

We are going to continue talking on medication today. I give my mother one 81 mg. chewable aspirin a day because this is the doctor’s order’s. I crush it up and put it in her feeding tube. I also take one 81 mg. aspirin a day myself. The doctor put me on it several years ago.
Aspirin is called a wonder drug and has been around for more than a century. It is used for pain and fever relief also for the blood as well.
Aspirin reduces fever, it causes blood vessels to open causing heat to leave our body more rapidly. It’s also good for pain. Many people can only take buffered aspirin. It ‘s also good for arthritis and inflammation of bones, joints and body tissues.
You can be allergic to it so be careful. It should not be given to children under sixteen.
They say as soon as possible after someone has had a heart attack you should give an aspirin. Always ask doctor before taking aspirin or other medication.

The Day Of Rest

As a caregiver we do not get Sunday off, we still have to take care of our love ones. I know God understands this. I do try and let other things go on this day like washing, cleaning the house ect.

Genesis 2:2 “Tells us that on the seventh day God rested. I try to rest and pray and read God’s Word. I don’t get to go to church that much I watch it on T.V. and that helps a lot.
Because this is the seventh day if you have never asked Jesus into your heart I want to give you the opportunity to do so. Just pray this simple prayer and it will change your life and keep you out of hell.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I come to You in the Name of Jesus
You said in Your Word,”…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
And shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead,THOU
SHALT BE SAVED” (Rom.10:9).
I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
I believe He was raised from the dead for my justification.
Your Word says,”…with the HEART man believeth unto righteousness:
And with the MOUTH confession is made unto salvation” (rom10:10).
I do believe with my heart, and I now confess with my mouth Jesus as My Lord and
Savior. Therefore, I am now saved! Thank You, Lord for my salvation.

If you prayed this prayed sincerely from your heart, then according to God’s Word you
Are saved! I want to welcome you to the family of God. Now tell someone because
God says if we are ashamed of Him He will not confess us before His Father in
Heaven. Write and let me know. You will never be the same.

Learn From Your Nurses

Always remember to start your day with prayer. Pray for God to give you strength to take care of your loved one. With out God’s help you cannot make it. In Deuteronomy 33:25 God tells us “..as out days so shall our strength be.” I speak this to myself a lot. When I feel tired and like I just can’t seem to go on . I will say the Lord says, “..as my days so shall my strength be.” so I have strength for today.

Today I want to talk about nurses. I have learned so much from the nurses that come out and check on my mother. I use a wonderful health care service I have been with this care service for nearly seven years. I have nothing but good to say about this company. The nurses are there for you 24 / 7 . All I have to do is call them .

How To Treat And Prevent Bedsores

Isaiah 40:29 “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” We need new strength for each day.
I have been sharing with you about how to protect your love ones from getting bedsores.
If you have a nurse who comes out she can get you the thick Hydrocolloid dressing I told you about. You can buy them but they are very expensive. When the nurse does not come out, I go ahead and order them myself. You can also get a Hydrophiler Coloplast the nurse can also get this for you. Be sure and watch the feet and I also ordered some special booties you can use to help keep bedsores off the feet. Always make sure you keep the feet up on pillows if this is a pressure point. You must always remember the sign of a bedsore starting is the pinkish or red color and when you see this you must take care of it at once and put a stop to it. This is very important to stop it immediately.
I will also talk about the feeding tube, suction machines, diapers, pillows, feeding by mouth, using thick it, blood pressure medication, strokes/aspirin and keeping things sanitary, supplies, visiting nurses and anything else I can help you with.

Mattresses

Today is a new day remember “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13. We have to have new strength each day to be able to take care of our loved one.
I am going to talk more today about what I do to keep bedsores from coming on my mother.
The mattress is very important. Medicare sent us a mattress which helps so much. We have had the same mattress for all these years, “ If it works don’t fix it.” as they say.
Another very important thing is changing her position. Keep you love one off any place that is a pressure point on their body. When you see the skin breaking down it starts to look a little pink or red and that is when you start to take care of that area. Check back and feet often.
If you see this first sign on the body, cleanse the place or places with saline and be sure to dry after. I use small sterile 2X2 pads for this. The next thing you do is cut to fit over the place a thick Hydrocolloid dressing make sure and use the thick dressing. Now cover the dressing with a clear transparent dressing they come in a 2 3/8” X 2 ¾” or 4” X 4 ¾” size. This keeps out moisture and germs.

Bedsores

To take care of a loved one and do it right it takes a lot of prayer and love. I pray everyday for God to give me strength to be able to take care of my mother and He does.
I want to share with you some of the things I have done all these years that might help you in some way to take care of your loved one.
I can only share with you what works for my mother. If this helps you in anyway it will be a blessing. I also want to be here for you. Feel free to write me ask me questions at any time.
Bedsores are a big problem for most people who have been confined to a bed for a long time. I will share with you how I keep bedsores off my mother with God’s help. I will also be giving you advice on how to prevent blood clots and pneumonia.
I know that life for a caregiver is hard but so is life for the one you are caring for.
Remember in Matthew 25:4 Jesus said,” In as much as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me. It’s really like you are taking care of Jesus. He sees what you are doing and you will be blessed.

This Is The Day

Psalms 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it.” That is what I am going to do today.
I once heard it said indifference makes excuses but love finds a way. I loved my mother enough to find a way to take care of her.
God said in Ephesians 6:2-3 “Honour thy father and mother: which is the first commandment with promise, that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”
I want to share with you anything that may help you be able to take care of your love one.
My mother fell and broke her left hip in 2003 and had several strokes. Because of the broken hip and strokes the doctor did not want to do surgery on her hip. This has left her little legs contracted and she is totally bedfast. I have to lift her, turn her, change her and bathe her.
In January this year 2009 she got pneumonia due to aspiration she is now on a feeding tube.
In 2003 when she was in the hospital with the broken hip the doctor told me to take her home and she might live two years. This is the normal time they say for someone in her shape it will be seven years July 2010.
I have been taking care of her by myself for nearly six years my daughter started helping me last year 2008. She comes in the morning at eight a. m. and leaves at two pm, Monday –Friday. I have her nights and weekends. My daughter’s help is such a blessing. I thank God for providing help for me.

The Caregiver Cont.

Always remember we are to love not in just words but also in deed. I John 3: 16-18 we are to love one another I John 4:7.
As you love and take care of your loved ones you need to also love and take care of yourself. So rest your body, exercise your body and know that God loves you. In Isaiah 30:15 “In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength; I believe that children should be taken care of by their parents and parents should be taken care of by their children. I guess I am just from the old school so to speak.

The Caregiver Cont.

Caregivers must also remember what God said in his word. I know we care for our loved ones because we love them, not because we expect any reward for doing it. We must also remember that as we take care of our loved ones it is the same as taking care of Jesus, read what it says in Matthew 25: 35-40 “For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? Or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Also in Ephesians 6:2-3 is a promise from God that if we honor our father and mother he will give us a long life on this earth. So we will be rewarded for what we are doing.
